Push Past Mental Paralysis

Today is World Mental Health Day. A perfect day for me to talk about how paralysis doesn’t just have to be physical. We all have struggles that come from within us as well that may be invisible to the outside world.

Everything starts from inside of us. Whether we can or can’t do something always begins with our mind and our drive. We all face road blocks in life. More times than not, they’re only blocks because we perceive them as such. We become paralyzed in place and seemingly can’t move forward. I don’t believe in the word can’t, but if it does exist, it’s only temporary.

There’s a way around every obstacle (and excuse) in life, especially the ones our own brains create, but also the ones others set for us. We still get to choose if we are going to let someone else stop us from achieving what we set out to achieve in life. Any obstacles that we have to push past because of another person is simply their own feelings about themselves and the world that they project onto others. Stop participating in the misery loves company pity parties. Don’t get sucked into that shit. Rise above it, especially if you struggle with mental health. It will only feed into it and make it worse. Our environments create habits and lifestyles very easily. Healthy people, places and things are vital to our wellbeing.

The shame and stigma around mental paralysis or mental health needs to end and be eradicated once and for all. You don’t have to live with it forever. Support is out there but it does you no good if you’re too afraid or ashamed to reach out and ask for it. There are also plenty of anonymous ways for you to reach out and get some support. You are not alone.

Mental health disorders or struggles are not permanent. They’re manageable and, in some case, curable. We can all overcome any trauma that we have endured. You’re not destined for failure and you most certainly should not wear it as a badge of honor or excuse as to why you’ve given up on yourself. There’s always hope.

Push Past Discrimination

I’ve been so torn the last few weeks. As a human being, as an American, as an empath. I don’t like so much as arguing, let alone violence. I want to do something.

So I’ve been reflecting a lot. Trying to find solutions amongst the images I cannot get out of my head; the killing of George Floyd, the riots and violence and also the rallies, marches and protests. I have never been one that likes to do something for one segment of any population. Even #PushPastParalysis goes way beyond the physical. People experience mental, emotional and spiritual paralysis all the time.

So I’ve decided that I’m going to begin a movement using my platform of just that, but unifying ANYONE who is discriminated against for ANY reason and find out how they too, Push Past Paralysis. What they’ve done and how they’ve done it against all odds. We ALL are discriminated against, no one is exempt from that and that INCLUDES those discriminated against because of the color of their skin.

No one can truly stop you but yourself. But so many people let what others say or do stop them from being themselves, loving and owning their individuality and being able to be their best. ‪The best way to beat discrimination is to not give into it. Do not look at yourself as the victim. ‪Never give up. ‬

I feel it’s my purpose to empower all who feel discriminated against, but you have to meet me half way. Don’t have a chip on your shoulder as if people are against you and have a wall up so we can’t support you because you’re choosing to stay in that mindset. You can’t have it both ways.

This is not going to be a meet up group where we all talk about our problems and how we feel. This is where we all are at our best and shining, doing what we do best. There is going to be a variety of things we all excel at and that’s the point.

I hope you’ll join me.

Being A Disabled Advocate & Pushing Past Paralysis

I was asked a question recently that I couldn’t give a short answer to, so I thought I’d vlog and blog about. The question was basically:

“Are you really disabled and how do you know the statistics when I have to search your page and still can’t find what your disability actually is?”

The answer is quite simple: I’m not defined by disability but that doesn’t mean I can’t advocate for those of us who have them AND, simultaneously, teach others how to push past paralysis themselves by living that way myself. The idea that I have to shout from the rooftops and identify with my disability is ridiculous. My username almost everywhere is “Push Past Paralysis”, you’d think that’d be enough. I guess not.

As far as how I advocate, it’s pretty simple. If you approach the world or people as if they are against you, you won’t get anywhere close to your mission being completed. That’s projection coming from YOU. Ask to sit down, converse, come to the table with facts, insight & drive. See how things unfold from that approach. You’d be surprised.

I have even more upsetting news for this person and any others who think like him. I live even LESS consumed by my disability in real life. The only reason I even address it online is because I like to connect with people and hope to help those struggling in any way with their own “paralysis” (whether in mind, body or spirit) with my story.

Granted, this person was kind of whacky and proceeded to demand information about my disability from my friends after I’d blocked him. Had he asked in a nice way and wasn’t so aggressive about it, we could have had a dialogue. Like I said, I did want to address the question for anyone else wondering for themselves, which is exactly why I’m posting this blog and why I made a YouTube video.

I hope you enjoy it and will subscribe to my channel for many similar videos!

The Disabled Are The Truly Forgotten Men & Women Of America

I wanted to run some numbers by you, to give a little perspective to the political climate today.

An estimated 54 million Americans are living with disabilities.

$200 Billion per year is supposed to be allocated to American people living with disabilities.

People living with disabilities are among 20% of the world’s poorest people.

The unemployment rate among people living with disabilities is around 88%.

Between 785 and 975 million people 15 years old and up are living with disabilities.

Doctors are significantly undertrained in the field of disabilities, let alone for specific disabilities. Let’s not even get into how people living with disabilities are treated in nursing homes or assisted living facilities.

The sick part is that the funds for all of this are approved, but where are they going? Not to those of us living with disabilities. I’m no mathematician, but something isn’t adding up!

Now let’s shift gears a little bit...

There were 10.7 million illegal aliens living in the United States in 2016. The net cost to state, local and federal US government is approximately $116 billion per year. Yes, it fluctuates based on the number of illegals currently here and does not count when an illegal commits a crime and how much that costs the government. 56,000 illegal aliens are in our prison system. In 2018, 1.7 million pounds of narcotics have been seized, 17,000 adults were arrested with criminal records which included 6,000 gang members and there’s a huge human trafficking issue.

Tell me why and how it’s ok for even a small amount of legal American citizens to be suffering, while we welcome and help illegal aliens, many of whom harm our citizens whether by physical harm or smuggling drugs through our borders? How is that logically ok with anyone?!

I’m a conservative self sufficient woman, despite my disability. I’m working hard to not need my monthly check, despite being entitled to it. However, I’m very aware that many of my fellow Americans are suffering greatly and can not help but need to rely on the government to help them. People living with disabilities deserve to live as well as the average American, and maybe even get better help on living more independently as much as possible. Instead, they are being taken advantage of, under cared for and neglected and many, I would bet, don’t even realize it. It is sickening to me and it’s gone on for far too many decades!

Bottom line, a wall would save American lives of every gender, color and ability. It will also free up funds that are supposed to be going to Americans that need it and are entitled to it!

The 17th Anniversary Of 9/11/01

It seems every year, in the days approaching the anniversary of 9/11/01, I find myself just as passionate as I was on the day it happened. I’m always proudly patriotic, but being from NY, it’s hard not to go right back to that day.

Where were you when the world stopped turning, on that September day?

https://youtu.be/KNsfx_4k-JA

I was in homeroom. My dad picked me up and I thought something happened to my grandmother who was still alive but sick at the time. She has since passed. I had no concept of the fact that the World Trade Center had been hit or what that meant. I guess I just used to go by “Twin Towers” more often. When I got home, my family had the news on and it was devastating.

The days, weeks, months and years that followed were sad but brought this country together unlike anything I’ve seen before. What’s happened to us? Have we forgotten? Why are we not just as proud to be Americans? Why are we not just as angry at our enemies, both foreign and domestic, who have proven time and again for decades that all they do is let us down? I understand it’s a hard pill to swallow for some, but the proof is in the pudding and most of it is not conspiracy theories.

Have you forgotten? https://youtu.be/VpoudLoc8sY

This president is doing everything he can to give us our country back and so many are blind and ungrateful for it. Not me. I see it. I’ve seen the corruption, living in the NY swamp all my life, and it’s sickening to see people try to take down the first man that’s ever tried, and actually is succeeding, in giving us our country back. It’s personal to him, just as it is to me. He’s been taking notes for decades and it’s time for the revenge and to give us our country back. He’s forgotten nothing.

The world today should be just as much about politics and party lines as it was on 9/11/01 to the average American. Which is not at all. Its about cleaning up the messes this country has been left in for years. The swamp is on both sides and we’re draining it. It’s about freedom, it’s about patriotism and being loyal to and damn proud to be an American, where at least we know we’re free.

9/11 is also another reason why I stand for the American flag!

Why Should Personal Mistakes In A Public Figures’ Life Negate All Of The Good They’ve Done?

must say, it’s been awhile since I’ve felt the need to write one of these blogs. Maybe there have been reasons to do so since my last one, but I’ve been busy living my life. However, it doesn’t mean that I won’t stand by people I love, so here I am...

As you may have found out, Paulie Calafiore is once again under fire. This time for alleged cheating allegations on girlfriend Danielle Maltby. I feel weird even bringing this up to be honest and the only reason I am is because of the storm it’s causing across the internet. Literally everything bad people have said about Paulie during his time on Big Brother 18 in 2016 is being regurgitated.

So here’s what I think. Paulie and Danielle are both public figures, I get that. But they are also human beings. I do not condone cheating, however, it is also not my relationship nor is it any of my business OR yours. I don’t understand why people are so quick to demonize nowadays over personal mistakes and make up their own stories and conclusions as to how everyone involved should feel or what they should do. It really reminds me of the term “fake news.”

If Paulie committed an actual crime, I could see the judgment. I could even see being hurt on Danielle’s behalf if you’re a fan of hers. However, cheating is a mistake. A PERSONAL mistake. He’s done nothing to anyone else but Danielle (and if he’s ever actually cheated before.) Unless someone does something personal to me, I’m not jumping on any bandwagons to demonize and hate on them. It does not make him a bad person and it most certainly does not take away anything from my personal experiences with him over the years. He and his family have been nothing but loving and amazing people to me. He’s done so much good for so many people, namely through his charity The Rise Up and I’m sorry but something happening in his personal relationship does not and should not negate all of that. It is by no means a jab at any of the causes he supports. Cheating is a bad thing, of course, however it is not to be compared to rape, abuse or any of the other things people are claiming Paulie is. People REALLY need to learn the difference in that all across the board. Which brings me to my next point...

I will never understand why haters follow or comment on everything someone does whom they can’t stand. Some even take it steps further and harass their family, friends, people they associate with through business and supporters. It’s absolutely ridiculous to me. People have too much time on their hands if all they’re going to do is hate. There is more than enough talent to follow than to concentrate so much of your 24 hours in a day on people you don’t like or support. Spread love, not hate.

I don’t care what anyone else plans to do, but come Tuesday, June 12th, I will once again be repping #TeamPaulie during his stint on “The Challenge” on MTV! Here is Paulie’s personal statement on what has transpired. I believe the LEAST we can do is grant his wish for privacy.
